Our private sailing lessons offer focused, one-on-one coaching tailored to your individual goals and experience level. Whether you are a beginner building confidence or an experienced sailor refining advanced techniques, each session is structured around your needs to ensure steady, practical progress on the water.
We also offer own boat tuition with personalised, on-the-water training where a professional instructor comes aboard your own vessel to teach you, your crew, or family how to handle your specific boat with confidence.

Program
Our Private Lessons and Own Boat Tuition sessions begin with a free consultation with Panache Sailing prior to booking, allowing us to understand your specific needs and tailor the training accordingly.
Sessions are available as half-day or full-day lessons, as well as multi-day passages for those looking to significantly build experience and confidence on the water. Longer courses often include more in-depth passage planning, navigation, night watches, and bar crossings where conditions and opportunities allow.
What to bring (PL)
- Clothing: waterproof jacket and trousers, non marking sailing boots or shoes, warm layers, quick dry clothing, hat and sailing gloves, swimwear and beach towel
- Personal Items: sunscreen, sunglasses, refillable water bottle, personal medications, toiletries
- Miscellaneous: head torch, notebook and pencil, phone charger/power bank
- Luggage: please pack your belongings in a soft-sided, collapsible luggage such as a duffel bag, backpack, or sailing bag

Who is this course open to?
This course is open to anyone wishing to learn to sail or further develop their sailing skills. With personalised instruction from an experienced instructor, you’ll build real-world sailing ability at your own pace, with full focus on your individual learning goals. Lessons can cover everything from basic boat handling and sail trim through to navigation, passage planning, and advanced skippering techniques.
For Private Lessons, the minimum age is 16 for young participants, with no upper age limit for adults.
For Own Boat Tuition, participants are welcome to bring young children onboard, provided they remain under full adult supervision at all times.
What level of sailing experience is required?
You don’t need any prior sailing experience for this course. Whether you are a beginner building confidence or an experienced sailor refining advanced techniques, each session is structured around your needs to ensure steady, practical progress on the water.
Do I receive a certificate?
Although we don’t issue formal sailing certificates, our instruction follows internationally recognised training principles.
Our lessons are led by a principal instructor trained to RYA Cruising Instructor standard, ensuring a strong focus on safe progression, seamanship and confidence-building.
Can I pay a deposit instead of the full course fee?
Yes. For weekend and 5-day courses booked more than 30 days in advance, a 50% deposit can be arranged.
For bookings made within 30 days of the course start date, full payment is required.

How do I change or cancel my booking?
If you are unable to attend your scheduled course, you may reschedule once (subject to availability) at the discretion of Panache Sailing. An administration fee of $150 applies.
Cancellation terms:
- More than 30 days before the course: Full refund minus administrative fee
- 30 to 21 days before: 50% refund
- 21 to 14 days before: 30% refund
- Less than 14 days: No refund
If Panache Sailing cancels a course due to weather or operational reasons, you will be offered a full refund or the option to reschedule.
Courses run in a wide range of weather conditions. If you choose not to attend due to forecast conditions, standard cancellation terms apply.
Do I need personal insurance?
Panache Sailing holds full commercial insurance.
Participants are encouraged to arrange their own travel insurance to cover personal circumstances such as illness, cancellation, or unforeseen events.
Own Boat Tuition:
- The vessel must be insured by the owner for loss, damage, and legal liability to third parties.
- If the vessel is on delivery, the owner authorises the Company to skipper the craft and undertakes to secure the consent of the insurers to this agreement.
- A certificate of currency issued by the insurance provider must be provided as evidence of insurance coverage.
- It is the owner’s responsibility to request their insurer either:
- to co-insure the Company on the vessel’s policy for the duration of instruction/delivery; and/or
- to apply a waiver of subrogation.
